7 Beliefs That Stop Your Desires and Dreams from Coming True

What are your dreams, hopes, and desires? If you are like most people, you’ll stare blankly, or try to fish around for something you can cling onto, which usually has nothing to do with what you really want. Why are so many of us clueless when it comes to the subject of our dreams?

I’ve discovered there are certain beliefs that most of us have that can hinder our ability to know what our dreams are and to allow them to come true.

7 Beliefs That Stop Our Desires from Coming True…

1   I DON’T KNOW WHAT MY DESIRES ARE-

We can get so lost in the day-to-day routine of our daily life that we forget about asking our intuition or a higher source what our dreams are. If we ask and listen for the answer, we will let them start surfacing. Ask and we will receive.

2   I DON’T DESERVE MY DESIRES-

Many of us believe, consciously or not, or feel that we are unworthy of our dreams because we are flawed in some way or that we have done things that we need to be punished for. That means we have taken it on ourselves to judge ourselves, label who we are or what we did as wrong, and then we feel we need to punish ourselves for it.

3   I DON’T BELIEVE MY DESIRES WILL COME TRUE-–

When we believe we can never have what we really want anyway, we tend to settle for something else just to “make do.” Instead of saving for that beautiful living room set, we might make do with a new futon and an Ikea coffee table. “Making do” keeps us from achieving our dreams.

4   I’LL WAIT FOR MY SHIP TO COME IN-

Waiting for a windfall or perfect circumstances are two common excuses we could use to stop our hopes and desires cold. Winning the lottery, paying off our student loans, or waiting until we retire doesn’t do anything to make our dreams come true.

5   IT’S SELFISH TO MAKE MY DESIRES A HIGH PRIORITY-

Rather than working on our dreams now, we might make others’ needs and even their desires a higher priority than ours. We could wait until our spouse finds their dream job or our grandchildren no longer need a babysitter.

6   I’M CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT OTHERS WILL THINK-

Think about it! Do we really want to please others instead of getting our desires? The trouble with trying to please others is that often they don’t even remember what they disapproved of, or they will find something else they think we should or shouldn’t be doing.

7   IT’S TOO DIFFICULT AND/OR IT WILL TAKE TOO LONG-

We can often think going for our desires will require consistent sacrifice and hard work. It’s difficult to believe that once we stop rejecting, denying, and fighting our dreams, the rewards will begin flowing in immediately. The only hard part was resisting them.

To Sum It Up in One Sentence!

We can have excuses or we can have our desires, but we can’t have both.
