Two Kinds of “Feelings” and How Each Impacts Us Daily

How we feel is a gauge or indicator of our thoughts and perceptions. It also alerts us of others’ thoughts.

There are many reasons why we would want to ignore how we are feeling. A couple of them might be that the feeling is unpleasant so we think it’s a bad thing.  Maybe it feels too good and pushes us out of our comfort zone.

Let’s make it simple by discussing the two different definitions of the word “feeling.”

___

What Causes Any Kind of Feeling?

Feelings come from thinking a bunch of the same thoughts.  The more thoughts, the stronger the feeling gets.

Example…

If you are thinking… “That couch is red.” It probably doesn’t have a feeling attached to it. Why? We usually don’t have that many thoughts about just the color of the couch.

But if you are thinking… “I love that red couch!” We would probably think about it more, which causes a stronger feeling.

Two Different Kinds of Feelings

One Kind of Feelings is…

Intuitive

An intuitive feeling is more of a neutral observation. Think of it as paying attention to and sensing the “energy.” It comes from an open mindset.

A good sign it’s an intuitive feeling is that we can’t explain the reason for the feeling. With our example “I love that red couch!” we just love it, but we have no idea why.

SOME COMMON INTUITIVE FEELINGS

Feeling…

Inspired                    Creative                    Grateful                    Accepting

Unafraid                   Enthused                  Confident                 Peaceful                                Connected                Relieved                    Insightful                                                                  Unconditional Love

The Other Kind of Feeling is…

Judgmental

If feelings come from perceiving ourselves, anyone else, the situation, or anything else as being “wrong,” it’s coming from judgmental thoughts.

Judgmental feelings want to blame, criticize, or punish someone or something.

 SOME COMMON JUGMENTAL FEELINGS

Feeling…

Sad                             Angry                        Fear                           Depressed

Hurt                           Guilty                        Impatient                 Unworthy

Vengeful                   Regretful                   Betrayed                   Disappointed

___

What’s the Advantage of NOT Tolerating Our Judgmental Feelings?

The BIG Advantage of NOT Tolerating our Judgmental Feelings is that…

1   IT MAKES US FEEL LOUSY

When we don’t tolerate negative feelings and the thoughts that make them up, we feel better. Life is more enjoyable without them.

Another Advantage of NOT Tolerating our Judgmental Feelings is that…

2   THEY ARE A FAULTY CONCEPT

No one or nothing is ever “wrong.” Everything is working in everyone’s favor all the time, even though sometimes it doesn’t appear to be. Sometimes it takes years before we understand in hindsight why things happened the way they did.

Another Advantage of NOT Tolerating our Judgmental Feelings is that…

3   IT BLOCKS OUR INTUITIVE FEELINGS

Intuitive feelings are what make life worth living. They give us hope, excitement, peace, answers, and inspiration, to name a few.

___

Two Ways to Let Go of Judgmental Feelings

1   RECOGNIZE THAT HAVING JUDGMENTAL FEELINGS IS A CHOICE

Keeping judgmental feelings is our secret wish to make someone or something “wrong.” If we let them go, a peaceful and loving feeling swoops in and gives us a new perception of what’s happening with us, others, or/and in the world.

2   ASK THE HIGHER SOURCE

Take each situation you want transformed and ask, “Let me see __________(describe the situation you are judgmental about, the person, or the group) differently.”

I have two QUIZZES that may help you let go of judgmental feelings…
