The INFJ personality type is almost always on a constant adventure of personal growth and improving themselves in one way or another. This causes them to fall into the habit of trying to be perfect.
To help clarify INFJs perfectionism, let’s divide it into two different ways. One comes from making judgments. The other comes from our intuition or inner guide.
Judgmental Perfectionism
INFJ’s drive to be perfect often begins with making a judgment or a criticism about their behaviors, personality traits, physical appearance, or anything they think they did “wrong.”
Their view of themselves usually falls into three categories—whether something is unacceptable, needs improvement, or perfect (which hardly ever happens). That makes the purpose of trying to be perfect to improve who they are—as if they are not good enough the way they are now.
Signs of Judgmental Perfectionism
When INFJs…
- Are critical of themselves—focusing on their faults or what they are doing “wrong.”
- Believe it would be better if they looked, spoke, or acted
- Use perfectionism to build their self-esteem or self-respect.
- Get impatient for the results.
- Have expectations of themselves.
- Feel inferior or intimated around certain people.
- Feel guilty about not achieving enough.
- Worry about what they did or did not do.
- Strongly believe they need to improve something to be
The Solution for Judgmental Perfectionism
Absolutely everything about us and who we are is perfect right now. We just don’t think it is.
Nothing needs to be improved or changed—only loved.
___
Intuitive Perfectionism
This is when the INFJ’s drive to be perfect comes from following their intuitive guidance. It is not about the INFJ’s individual ability to be perfect to feel good. It’s about feeling good by connecting to their intuitive guidance and watching the perfect outcome it produces.
Signs of Intuitive Perfectionism
When INFJs…
- Pay more attention to tapping into an incredible intuitive feeling, than they do in correcting their judgments about themselves.
- Have periods when they appreciate themselves exactly the way they are.
- Feel worthy and deserving no matter how imperfect they think they are.
- Get amazing results and more perfect than they themselves could have ever imagined.
