Part of what’s causing all our stress is that our institutions or systems are falling apart rapidly, and nothing’s there yet to replace most of them.

What Are Some Kinds of Institutions or Systems that are Collapsing?
- ORGANIZED RELIGION- A framework that regulates ethical beliefs, rituals, and community life under some form of leadership or governance.
- GOVERNMENT- A group of people that has the authority to make and enforce laws and policies in its jurisdiction.
- LARGE CORPORATIONS- A common and powerful business structure with over 500 employees, which is changing with AI and automation.
- FORMAL EDUCATION- A designed form of learning developed and taught by trained teachers.
- MARRIAGE- A legal contract and a social institution that formally unites two or more people. Increasingly, individuals have no desire to get married, stay married, or want to involve the state.
- HEALTHCARE- A system aimed at maintaining, restoring, or promoting people’s physical, and mental well-being.
- ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY– A system that creates, produces, promotes, and distributes various forms of entertainment to amuse or engage audiences.
- NEWS MEDIA- A framework of communication platforms and organizations that gather, produce, and distribute news and information about current events to the public.

What Do these Institutions or Systems Have in Common?
They…
1 PROVIDE THE ILLUSION OF SECURITY
- Organized religion promises to protect our souls.
- Government promises to protect us from lawlessness, social disorder, and violence.
- Large corporations promise to protect their workers from bankruptcy, homelessness, and starvation.
- Formal education promises to protect us from inadequate or underemployment opportunities.
- Marriage promises companionship, stability, financial help, and domestic or emotional support.
- Healthcare institutions promise to help us manage or heal our mental and physical ailments.
- The entertainment industry promises to provide us with engaging experiences that produce pleasure, and emotional connection.
- News media institutions promise to provide us with accurate information, educational content, and a platform for debate.
Another thing these institutions have in common is…
2 THEY HAVE A CHAIN OF COMMAND
They are based on a structured hierarchy ranking positions, except for those rare marriages when both are actually equal in all aspects.
Another thing these institutions have in common is…
3 THEY SHARE FORMALITY
Institutions operate from a previously thought-out system of established rules, procedures, or customs.
Another thing these institutions have in common is…
4 THEY USUALLY MOVE AT A SNAILS PACE
Institutions or systems resist change because of their ingrained structures, routines, and mindsets that maintain the status quo. The government is the exception right now, a good portion of the jurisdictions are trying to take down the institution quickly.
Another thing these institutions have in common is…
5 THEY USE THE “ONE SIZE FITS ALL” THEORY
Institutions are set up to help the masses, not everyone in every situation.

Why are our Institutions or Systems Collapsing?
1 LEADERSHIP
A large portion of our leaders now lack true leadership skills that warrant our respect or support. Many have gotten and hold their titles or positions from inheritance, wealth, doing unethical things, and often make decisions centered around the leader’s self-interest. There’s nothing much to admire or “look up to.”
Another reason our institutions or systems are collapsing is…
2 THE GAP IS GROWING
There is a widening gap between institutional promises and our lived experiences. What we thought they would provide us is falling short. Either the promises keep being pushed out to the future, the sacrifices we have to make are outweighing the benefits of the reward, or when we do finally get the promises, they are short-lived or not that fulfilling.
Another reason our institutions or systems are collapsing is…
3 THEY ARE DINOSAURS
Institutions are not changing as fast as the world is now, and are being outdated quickly. It’s like they haven’t evolved. Most are misaligned with societal needs. All we have to do is listen to the CEO’s explain the decline in sales. Most are not in line with the mainstream reasons.
Another reason our institutions or systems are collapsing is…
4 THERE IS A LOT OF CORRUPTION
Institutions have let dishonesty, bribery, misconduct, fraud, and unfair treatment, infiltrate their day-to-day operations. It’s like their mission statement has become “gains for a few at the expense of others.” Some institutions have gotten so bad that they punish whistleblowers, competitors, or even their loyal followers.
Another reason our institutions or systems are collapsing is…
5 THEY ARE INEFFICIENT
Institutions or systems are usually complex and end up wasting time, resources, and effort without really getting the best results.
Another reason our institutions or systems are collapsing is…
6 THEY PRACTICE BEING DECEPTIVE
Institutions have become very deceptive, using all kinds of tactics to get people to give up their money, personal information, valuables, or their time. This could be by making the fine print unreadable, hidden or excessive costs, exaggerating benefits, or dozens of other ways. None of which helps us trust them.
Another reason our institutions or systems are collapsing is…
7 THE AWAKENING OF SELF-AWARENESS
When we trust institutions and systems less, we become more self-reliant, paying more attention to our sense of self, our emotions, thoughts, perceptions, and behaviors.
Important!
Did you notice that all of these reasons why institutions are collapsing are mental in nature (involving thoughts, feelings, and attitudes)? Makes you wonder if the majority of us would have addressed our individual mental issues, would we be in this situation now?
