Everything around us seems to be changing quickly. One of them is our relationship with our leaders in business, organized religion, and government. What’s happening to our leaders?
Here are Some Reasons Why We Might Be Losing Trust in Leaders…
The First Reason is…
1 THE REDEFINITION OF THE MEANING OF LEADERSHIP
In the last few years, the meaning of being a leader has mostly shifted from taking care of those in our charge to taking control of others and being in charge. This means the emphasis has changed from helping and supporting people to focusing on controlling and dominating them.

Another Reason Why We Might Be Losing Trust in Leaders is…
2 THE USE OF FEAR
Many leaders are now using fear as a method to control their followers. Religious leaders might use the fear of hell, businesses might use the threat of being fired if quotas are not met, and local governments might use fines for not following their laws.
Although the method of leadership can be effective in the short term, eventually, followers need to break free of the fear. That can be a reason why so many are leaving the church, are apathetic about their jobs, or not paying their parking tickets.

3 THEY OFTEN PROMOTE UNFAIRNESS
It’s becoming more common for leaders to create an unsafe environment for some of their followers. Leaders might be making it extremely difficult to obey all guidelines all the time. Or they may give special treatment to some while neglecting others.

4 THEY OFTEN FAVOR SELF-INTERESTS
Many leaders are concerned with their status and importance in the organization. They might even exaggerate their part in a task, present others’ ideas as their own, or withhold information to maintain control. In other words, they often sabotage their followers.

Another Reason Why We Might Be Losing Trust in Leaders is…
5 WHEN THEY DON’T SHOW APPRECIATION FOR OTHERS
It gets extremely hard to trust leaders who don’t respect and have compassion for others. They may say they do and sometimes go through the motions, but in your heart, you know which leaders don’t.

The Last Reason Why We Might Be Losing Trust in Leaders is…
6 WHEN THEY HAVE NO DESIRE TO DO INNER WORK
There are a lot of people in leadership positions now, who are still battling their inner issues, such as unresolved grudges, past regrets, hidden anger, and the need to prove they are superior to others. Many have focused their lives on gaining their position, but have neglected the emotional part—the part that makes leading really meaningful and inspires others to willingly follow them long-term.
