10 Reasons Why No One Wants to Work Anymore

Have you noticed the last few years, it seems like work is not the priority any longer? Most of us are tired of chasing the dangling carrot.

Here are 10 Possible Reasons Why No One Wants to Work Anymore

1   UNSTABILITY

An industry’s direction, a company’s culture, poor leadership, or unsafe working conditions make most work environments unstable. There is less of an inclination to really get engaged in our work when we feel insecure.

2   BROKEN PROMISES

One day, companies will set a performance benchmark and then, in midstream, change it or worse, renege on the rewards promised for accomplishing the goals.

3   RIGGED

When we experience ourselves or other deserving co-workers being passed by for a promotion or a raise in favor of a family member or someone who sucks up, it can be very discouraging. If this occurs, and especially if it is a pattern, it’s difficult to escape without it affecting us negatively.

4   CHANGING BELIEFS

As we see more things fall through at work, it’s getting tough to keep believing “Hard work pays off,” and “the greater the sacrifice, the greater the reward.”

5    MISMATCHED JOB POSITION

Because most of us make huge compromises in what tasks we will do, it can be challenging to stay motivated to do something we don’t really enjoy doing, especially if management pulls a bait and switch.  Instead of waiting for work we want and feel excited about, we are often tempted to work for any company that will hire us, no matter what the job involves.

6   MAKING SACRIFICES

When we have to make unnecessary sacrifices for work like mandatory overtime, a long commute time, or the loss of benefits that we are using, it tends to dampen our morale. Anytime anyone feels used, it’s extremely hard to get them excited about their work.

7   UNFOCUSED

Nowadays, it’s difficult to stay focused on anything for long. The pace at which things are changing, and being bombarded with extreme events happening to ourselves, loved ones, and in the world, tends to make our work lives not that important.

8   PURPOSE

It’s tempting to crawl into bed and pull the covers over our heads when we narrow our purpose of working down to making money, especially if it’s not enough to make ends meet.

9  INFLUENCE OF OTHERS

It’s hard to get motivated when almost everyone we work with doesn’t care that much either.

10   UNETHICAL STUFF

IMPORTANT! This is the reason that can affect us the most. When our work place asks us to do things immoral or borderline shady, we begin an internal battle with our “soul.”

Unethical stuff is based on the theory “we can gain at something else (environment, animals, etc.) or someone else’s (customers, co-workers, the competition, etc.) expense.” That goes against our moral core.

We might tell ourselves that management is to blame, and we just follow their instructions. But sooner or later, our “soul” always wins.

Summary

No wonder nobody wants to work anymore! Until we stop tolerating poor leadership, putting up with unbeneficial working environments, start using our moral compass, and trust our intuitive insights, work probably won’t be a priority in our lives.
