At one time or another probably everyone has experienced feeling like they were unfairly treated, blindsided, the loser, misled, deceived, harmed, or held back in some way. Some experience it with a certain event. Some experience it in certain areas of their lives, such as in their relationships, with their finances, with their health, or with their careers. Then some experience it with most things in their lives.

What is a Victim?
A victim is anyone who allows themselves to be hurt by anyone or anything outside themselves. Because they believe they are completely innocent and take no responsibility for how they feel emotionally, they extend the painful effects.
___
6 Signs We Might be Playing the Victim
When we…
1 Feel powerless or helpless.
2 Blame others for what has or is happening.
3 Secretly want others or ourselves to be punished or pay the price for what has or is happening.
4 Use what happened or is happening as an excuse for being unsatisfied.
5 Find ourselves dramatizing the event or exaggerating the impact of it.
6 Use playing the victim as an identity because it makes us feel morally superior.
___
What Causes Us to Play Victim?
When we play victim we are not taking responsibility for how we feel emotionally—which is really the only CONTROL we have.
We may not be able to control what happens in our lives, our physical appearance, or certain behaviors, such as where we go, what we do, who we interact with, how much money we have, what experiences we have, and when we have them.
But we can control how it affects us. We have the choice if we are going to let it hurt us or hold us back.
We cannot always choose what happens, but we can choose how we want to experience it.
___
3 Big Effects of Being a Victim
- Makes it hard to forgive others.
- Keeps us fearful or angry at someone or something.
- It pushes thinking positive thoughts and gratitude aside.
___
How do We Stop Playing a Victim?
Recognize it’s a choice to let someone or something cast dark shadows on our lives. It’s believing no one or nothing can continue to hurt us without our permission. Then we can choose differently.
Our intuition or inner guidance will take over and guide us on what’s next.
