Have you ever been so lonely, and felt so desperate, that you tried to grab someone—anyone—to make yourself feel better? Have you noticed, that even being in a satisfying romantic relationship, or in a room full of people, you can still feel just as lonely? What causes that miserable feeling to creep up on us like that, anyway?
We have all probably at one time or another run around trying to find a love interest, family, friends, or even strangers to rescue us from this horrible, isolated feeling.
So, What Causes our Loneliness?
A Course in Miracles (ACIM) states,
“Only what you have not given can be lacking in any situation.”
What does that mean? Could we be seeking the love that we already have, but are not giving? This reminds me of the song “You Get What You Give.” So, if we want to feel connected and loved, we need to extend love.
Other statements in A Couse in Miracles that validate this point are…
“Offer it and it will come to you, because it is drawn to itself.”
Another is,
“By giving you receive.”
That doesn’t mean we need to write a check, volunteer for a charity, buy gifts, or people-please. It means all we need to do to extend love and end our loneliness is to think loving thoughts about others. It’s that simple.
