INFJ personality types (according to the MBTI personality test) are very sensitive to the energy of others and their environment. This makes certain situations depleting and sometimes extremely difficult for an INFJ.
Here’s a List of Some of the Things That Cause INFJs to Feel Exhausted or Drained…
- Someone wanting their constant attention.
- Making small talk, such as discussing the weather, what they had for lunch, or what they are going to do today. Essentially conversations from the head, not the heart deplete INFJs.
- Environmental distractions, such as loud noises, strong smells, or scratchy fabrics. Of course, the more intense the distraction and longer it lasts, the more taxing.
- Social events, especially when they involve being in large groups or around negative people.
- Being criticized for not being able to get out of their head, obsessing, or thinking so much.
- Not having a sanctuary or a safe space of their own.
- Being stretched too thin or having back-to-back obligations.
- Having to make decisions before they have time to think it over. INFJs don’t do well with acting before they think.
- When their physical world (what we see, hear, smell, and touch) is unstable, like not having enough money, an ongoing problem, or a loved one’s illness.
- Relationship conflict or misunderstandings, especially if they have no closure.
- Being indecisive. This goes back to the two previous points. INFJs need stability and closure to stop feeling depleted.
- Being around negative people for any length of time or watching the news can be very draining.
- INFJs are organizers. So, it would make sense that any kind of disorganization would mess with their minds.
- Trying to dismiss how they feel. To an INFJ, ignoring what comes from the heart is cutting off their energy source.
- Not having big blocks of time on their own with no interruptions.
- Dishonesty. This can mean others not telling the truth, or denying their own truth to themselves.
- Not talking to others about meaningful subjects. It’s often difficult for INFJs to fully understand their own thoughts and feelings without the input of others. Many of my coaching clients and friends are INFJs.
- Soaking up other’s emotional storms. It’s easy for INFJs to feel others trauma or crisis, and become just as stressed.
- Trying to do things without passion. In other words, trying to settle for mediocre. INFJs are “all or nothing” types.
- Denying their intuition or inner guide. Recognizing signs from the universe, getting “aha” moment’s, and having sudden insights or “flashes” energize INFJs.
- Judging or doubting themselves. Because INFJs often sense things before they see evidence of them, they can get carried away in self-doubt, even to the point they feel like an undeserving or unworthy person.
