4 Ways We Lose Ourselves When We Work for Companies

When we work in company environments, it’s common for us to feel disconnected from our sense of self. Most of us are not even aware of the impact it has on us.

That’s Changing

Whether we like it or not, more and more of us are being laid off and nudged into contract labor or working for ourselves. Having a few jobs or a few clients can be a blessing in disguise! Here’s how…

4 Ways We Lose Ourselves When We Work for Companies

Working for companies give us the…

1  ILLUSION OF SECURITY

Working for companies has lured us into feeling safe for decades. It has made us mentally slack off and reduced our attention to the point that we operate on autopilot most of the time.

The problem is that job security is almost nonexistent nowadays. This has caused us to start thinking again. 2   ILLUSION OF BELONGING

We’ve been taught that humans are social beings, but are we really? Is that belief just a distraction keeping us from becoming aware of who we actually are? Sure, it feels good to belong to a group. 4   ILLUSION OF TRUTH

Groups of people, especially those working in companies, can easily lead us to believe in deceptive or misleading information. They even go so far as to fire or punish those who threaten their collective delusions.

Companies tend to be built around seeking validation rather than seeking the truth.

Truth separates us from the group. It makes us face uncomfortable realities about ourselves, and where we work or worked. Truth demands courage, emotional maturity, and moral independence.

Summary

We’ve probably not realized in full extent how working for companies has offered us only the illusions of safety, belonging, truth, and being who we are until we understand this.
