NOT NECESSARILY ABOUT POLITICS
This isn’t your typical political piece. It’s more than that. It’s about discussing the differences in each mindset—the way each side goes about living their lives and what’s important to them. It focuses on the mental part and core beliefs.
FOR BOTH SIDES
Of course, we may favor one side over the other, but there is probably a little of both sides in all of us. If we take time to reflect on it, it might help us understand what’s going on and close the gigantic divide we have now.
___
Here’s the List…
1 LEADERS
Conservative mindsets tend to obey whatever their leader says without question. We often see it in corporations, the military, and organized religions.
Liberal mindsets tend to let their intuition be their guide. We often see it with entrepreneurs, gig workers, and creative people.
2 SOCIAL SYSTEM
Conservative mindsets tend to favor traditions and the patriarchy controlled by men or a group of men. An example is when women earn less than men for the same work.
Liberal mindsets tend to favor a social system not based on age-old traditions or gender.
3 SELF-AWARENESS
Conservative mindsets tend to avoid self-reflection or self-improvement. They see no need for it.
Liberal mindsets tend to do their inner work (the practice of changing their judgmental thoughts and perceptions to more loving ones).
4 CHANGE
Conservative mindsets tend to resist change. It’s more comfortable to keep things the same and make small changes, but only if pushed into it. An example is how slow corporations make decisions.
Liberal mindsets tend to embrace changes. They are willing to change with the times and believe that it is leading to something better.
5 CONCERN
Conservative mindsets tend to focus on attaining money, property, and possessions. The more the better.
Liberal mindsets tend to focus more on having pleasant experiences and avoiding conflict.
6 OTHERS
Conservative mindsets tend to primarily care about themselves and then a select few, but only if they agree with them.
Liberal mindsets tend to care about everyone to some extent, excluding no one.
7 PROBLEMS
Conservative mindsets tend to blame anyone or anything else for their problems. They often think they are victims of their circumstances.
Liberal mindsets tend to know that the outcome of their problems can shift drastically for the better by changing their mindset to wanting everyone to win in the situation.
8 EQUALITY
Conservative mindsets tend to be self-righteous and don’t believe in equality. They can discriminate against certain groups. A good example is the huge pay gap in the workforce.
Liberal mindsets tend to believe that everyone is important and equal.
9 WINNING
Conservative mindsets tend to be more focused on winning, many times even to the point they are willing to lie and cheat to win. Look at political gerrymandering.
Liberal mindsets tend to be focused on the experience of playing the game. If they win that’s great, but if they don’t it’s OK too.
10 ENEMY
Conservative mindsets tend to think the enemy is other people or groups. They are ready to fight and make huge sacrifices to win, even with others on their side. A good example is the Republican-led House of Representatives fighting against each other.
Liberal mindsets tend to think their worst enemy is their own fear and anger. They often desire peace and avoid conflict at all costs. A good example is when the Democrats let things slide and don’t take action.
11 POWER
Conservative mindsets tend to think power is controlling other’s behaviors, usually by limiting or punishing them in some way. Taking away rights and privileges is a good example.
Liberal mindsets tend to think power is controlling their mindset—thoughts, perceptions, attitudes, and emotions.
12 SPIRITUAL
Conservative mindsets tend to follow organized religions that have leaders and a set of rules to live by.
Liberal mindsets tend to be flexible and follow their intuition or inner guidance.
13 MENTAL STATE
Conservative’s mental state tends to be more angry, warlike, judgmental, fearful, and close-minded.
Liberal’s mental state tends to be more loving, open-minded, less afraid, and kinder to others.
14 FOCUS
Conservative mindsets tend to go in the direction that is more self-serving—centering around themselves and a select few. Their main concern is what they can individually do and attain. This is understandable since most of us grew up in a culture that emphasizes individual accomplishments, and the habit of competing against others.
Liberal mindsets tend to go in the direction that serves others—trying to make a difference in other’s lives.
15 TREAT OTHERS
Conservative mindsets tend to use others to “get” something. This could be to help them “get” money, have sex, or do services, to name a few. Look at lawmakers limiting privileges for workers to please their corporate donors.
Liberal mindsets tend to treat others as they want to be treated.
16 SEXUAL
Some conservative mindsets try to restrain their own sexual desires by projecting it onto others, blaming them, and wanting them to be punished for it—”It’s not me, it’s them” attitude. They also tend to use others without their permission. An example is leaders of organized religions.
Liberal mindsets tend to come out and accept their sexual desires. They don’t want to use others, but be free to be who they are. An example is those who are openly LGBTQ.
17 INTELLIGENCE
Conservative mindsets tend to NOT be willing to think, reason, or recognize different perspectives. They are not usually open to listening and learning, but more into criticizing others and voicing their opinions.
Liberal mindsets tend to be more intelligent because they have a curiosity and try to understand others.
18 EMPATHY
Conservative mindsets tend to have a lack of empathy or the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. They don’t usually care unless it affects them personally.
Liberal mindsets tend to care about almost everybody and try to understand where others are coming from.
19 EXCLUSION
Conservative mindsets tend to exclude individuals and groups different than themselves. They are usually very loyal to their group.
Liberal mindsets tend to include others (even die-hard conservatives) and feel that we all are the same, even though on the surface it appears we are not. Every individual is valuable in a different way and the world cannot be complete without each individual playing their part.
20 THE PAST
Conservative mindsets tend to be afraid of how everything is quickly changing. This often makes them want to retreat to the way it was in the past.
Liberal mindsets tend to know that we can’t return to the way it was. They’re busy trying to adjust to all the changes, not trying to roll them back.
21 SAFETY
Conservative mindsets tend to find security in things outside of themselves, such as leaders, property, money, guns, the police, or a strong spouse.
Liberal mindsets tend to find security from within. They depend on their intuition or inner guide to direct them from harm’s way.
