Have you ever been so lonely, and felt so desperate, that you tried to grab someone, anyone to make you feel better? Have you noticed, even being in a romantic relationship, or in a room full of people, you can still feel just as lonely. What causes that miserable feeling to creep up on us like that, anyway?
I think at one time or another we have all run around trying to find a partner, family, friends or even strangers to rescue us from this horrible, isolated feeling.
Here’s the zinger! A Course in Miracles states,
“Only what you have not given can be lacking in any situation.”
What does that mean? Could we be seeking for the love that we already have, but are not giving? This reminds me of the song “You Get What You Give.” So, if we want to feel connected and loved, we need to extend love.
Other statements in A Course in Miracles that validate this point are…
“And every thought of love you offer him/her but brings you nearer to your awakening to peace eternal and to endless joy.”
“Offer it and it will come to you, because it is drawn to itself.”
And yet another one,
“By giving you receive.”
That doesn’t mean we need to volunteer for a charity, buy gifts, or people please. It means all we need to do to extend love and stop our loneliness is to think loving thoughts about others. It’s that simple.
