I have had the honor of being a business and life coach to Connie Phillips-Eary, the Executive VP at Alliance of AZ Nonprofits in Phoenix, AZ. I really admire how she achieved one of her dreams. Below is her story of how she got out of fear of failing.
Connie wanted to hike the breathtaking and remote Havasupai Falls in Arizona. The 12- mile hike was not for the faint of heart with switchbacks and a steep descent.
“I’m not an outdoors type,” she said. “I’m not real athletic so it was a real challenge to do it.”
Connie followed a three-step process to OVERCOME THE FEAR OF FAILURE.
1. You don't get anywhere unless you first COMMIT to doing the thing YOU ARE MOST AFRAID OF.
2. One way to calm the fear is to PREPARE.
3. Finally, once you're in the midst of doing this really scary thing, AFFIRM frequently that you are PREPARED, that you are COMMITTED and that you are CAPABLE.
Connie’s result: I got to sit in this pool..it was almost like a natural Jacuzzi of jade green water.”
